Carolann Fraenkel
Co-Lead, Blueridge Cares
We love the holidays and want to make sure the season is special for everyone. Blueridge felt like home from the day we arrived, and Blueridge Cares is our way of giving that warmth back.

Cris and Carolann Fraenkel
Community Coordination & Handy Talents
What drove you to take the lead on Blueridge Cares? Just like Cris, it comes down to a deep love for the holiday season. We wanted to funnel that energy into making sure every neighbour who wants to celebrate can feel the magic. Leading Blueridge Cares lets us make sure no one is left out.
What skills do you bring to organizing this program? I have a lot of experience and skills in meeting facilitation and organization. Keeping large projects running smoothly, keeping people on track, and structuring our goals is where I thrive—which is essential when you’re coordinating holiday gift or food drives!
What is your all-time favourite neighbourhood memory? The very day we moved in! As the moving van was pulling away, a neighbour walked across the street, introduced herself and her kids, and offered a playdate so we could unpack. It was the ultimate welcome.
Quilting, Carpentry & Hidden Trails
- The “Handywoman” Fun Fact: My dad raised me like one of the boys, so I grew up learning plumbing, carpentry, auto mechanics, and all sorts of non-traditional skills. I’m definitely not afraid to roll up my sleeves and fix things!
- On My Days Off: You will almost always find me at my sewing machine, deeply focused on working on a new project or crafting a quilt.
- The Blueridge “Insider” Secret: Everyone should take the time to explore the mini trail system that secretly connects our streets. It’s a wonderful way to get around and see the neighbourhood.
Quick Hits
- One word to describe Blueridge: Home.
- Favorite BCA Initiative: Blueridge Cares.
- When I’m relaxing: I am usually quilting, reading, or planning a new creative project.
