If you live on the eastern edge of Seymour Heights or Blueridge, or if you live along the western side of Riverside Drive, this report is for you:

DNV 2026 Landslide Risk Assessment Update

There are many homes with addresses on Berkley, Hayseed Close, Lennox, Chapman, and other streets in the area explicitly listed, and their risk of being impacted by a landslide is discussed.

The report is very technical, but it explains what they looked for and how they computed the various risks. The homes are listed in tables toward the end, grouped by the escarpment they are near. In our local case, it’s the Berkley Escarpment that is the concern.

The good news is that since the last report, analysis techniques have improved, and a number of homes have seen their risk levels drop. But there are still homes with significant concerns.

It’s worth reviewing this report if you’re in the area and potentially taking action if needed. Actions might involve anything from rerouting surface runoff to installing retaining walls. Every property will have different needs that have to be evaluated by someone with the proper knowledge.

We definitely need to avoid slides like the one in 2005.

To help protect your home from the risk of wildfires, District of North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services (DNVFRS) is offering an in-depth fire safety home assessment through the FireSmart Home Partners program. Anyone who lives in the wildland urban interface (the area where the forest meets the community) can request this free service.

The North Shore Neighbourhoods Alliance (NSNA) is calling on all citizens to contact their mayor or council to demand a ‘section 765 LGA inquiry’ of the North Shore Wastewater Treatment plant. You can learn more in this news article. Contacting your MLA would be good as well. Thank you!

The 2025 DNV Annual Report is available at:

https://www.dnv.org/government-administration/annual-report

In addition, that same link will take you to an opportunity to provide feedback to the DNV about the Annual Report. Open through 3pm on June 22.

Fruit trees need harvesting.

Yes, it’s still early, but planning ahead can help.

Fruit attracts bears and causes them to become comfortable around humans and accustomed to our food. We need our bears to stay wild, so our fruit trees need to be harvested.

But that’s a lot of work, and it can be a lot of fruit. If you need help, contact:

North Shore Fruit Tree Project

They can harvest your trees and put the fruit to good use, helping those in need. They work June through September.

Don’t let your fruit trees attract bears. Instead, let them help the people who need it.

The District of North Vancouver is developing a Community Transportation Plan.

You can learn more and take a survey here:

https://www.dnv.org/streets-transportation/developing-a-new-community-transportation-plan

The survey ends on June 21st.

The 2025 DNV Annual Report is available at:

https://www.dnv.org/government-administration/annual-report

In addition, that same link will take you to an opportunity to provide feedback to the DNV about the Annual Report. Open through 3pm on June 22.

The Mt. Seymour Ski Resort and the Province of BC are asking for public comment on the resort’s proposed development plan. They’re planning on expanding their winter facilities, with more family-friendly intermediate ski terrain at a higher elevation and an enhanced base area that will feature an expanded learning area and larger lodges, with upgraded rentals, guest services, and dining options. They also plan to add summer activities and attractions, including hiking trails, a beginner mountain bike zone, disc golf, a skywalk, and more.

A provincial survey collecting feedback on their plan is open until 4pm on June 26, 2026.

More information:

The province is surveying residents about the future of childcare in BC. They want to know how the child care social program is working and where improvements are still needed.

You can provide your input here:

https://engage.gov.bc.ca/govtogetherbc/engagement/child-care-in-bc/

The survey is open until 4pm on June 9th.

Jun 20: Dîner en Bleu – event

Many details about this are still a secret, but this is the date of a ticketed (19+) gathering of Blueridge residents to dine and meet their neighbours.

All the details are available on the Dîner en Bleu page.

Our local elected leaders sometimes hold meetings with constituents. These can be a great opportunity to ask specific questions or raise issues without going to a council meeting. They bring staff along to help them take notes and track issues that need additional effort or research as well.

If you have a question for these folks, these may be a good resource.

Meet DNV Mayor Mike Little

We add other events as we find out about them. We also put them on the BCA’s Event Calendar.

July 2nd is the last day to pay your property taxes.

https://www.dnv.org/news/property-taxes-due-july-2-2026

July 12th, 7pm, at Canlan Sports. We meet upstairs in the dining area.

Stay Cozy with the BCA!

Once a month, the Blueridge Community Association invites you to trade your screen time for some “we” time. Our Cozy Nights are all about slowing down, catching up with old friends, and meeting the neighbours you haven’t had a chance to say hello to yet.

What to expect:

  • Casual Vibes: No agendas, no formal speeches — just good conversation.
  • Drinks & nibbles are available from Wild Wing.
  • Community Spirit: The best way to stay connected to everything happening in Blueridge.

Whether you’ve lived here for twenty years or just moved in last week, there’s a seat (and a glass) waiting for you.

Come for the drinks, stay for the neighbours.

We want to hear from you. What works? What can we improve? What would you like to see added? Please send your Cozy Night thoughts to info@blueridgeca.org.

Upcoming Cozy Nights are scheduled for:
