Small acts of kindness for when life gets a little overwhelming.

We believe in the power of a helping hand. Neighbours Helping Neighbours is a volunteer-led program by the BCA designed to provide short-term, one-off support to our fellow residents during unforeseen circumstances. We aren’t a professional service—we’re just your neighbours from down the street!

If you already know the drill, make your choice. Otherwise, read on to learn all about Neighbours Helping Neighbours!

How It Works – If You Need Some Help

It’s simple!

  1. Request a Hand: Fill out our simple form by clicking on the I Need a Hand button above or email us at nhn@blueridgeca.org if you’re facing a temporary hurdle.

  2. We Match You: We reach out to our pool of Blueridge volunteers to see who is available. We’ll need about 24 hrs. If we have questions, we may email or call you to clarify the request.

  3. Neighbourly Support: The volunteer stops by to help with that one-off task. Please note that the BCA’s insurance says we can’t let volunteers enter people’s homes as part of this program, so we have to work within that limitation.

Basically, if it’s a task you’d ask a good neighbour to help with for 30 minutes, it’s likely something we can do!

How it Works – If You Want to Help

This is easiest of all. Simply click on the I Can Lend a Hand button above, and fill out the form. We’ll save your information, and you will get email when someone needs help.

What Happens Next

When a help request is submitted, our coordinator sends an email to our volunteers to begin the process. Any volunteers who can help respond to the coordinator and offer to do the job. The coordinator puts the volunteer in touch with the requestor, and they work out the details about date, time, and so on. After the volunteer stops by to help, the process wraps up with everyone sending a quick email back to the coordinator to confirm the task was completed and share how it went.

What We Do (and Don’t) Do

We Can Help With…

Please Note…

Taking garbage cans to the curb.

We are volunteers, not a weekly service.

A one-off ride to a medical appointment.

We provide neighbourly lifts, not medical transport.

Accompanying you for a neighbourhood walk.

We are companions, not physical therapists.

Essential errands.

One-off help with light groceries or picking up a prescription.
