A Legacy of Action

I first stepped up 20 years ago to help protect our neighbourhood’s character, and I’ve stayed involved ever since to help Blueridge thrive.

A Deep Connection to Home

What brought you to the BCA? I joined about 20 years ago when I organized the residents of Browning Place to challenge a major townhouse development proposal. We were successful in preserving the end of our street and Berkley, and that experience showed me just how much we can achieve when we work together.

How does your background help your work with the BCA? Before retiring, my profession required me to constantly engage and relate to the general public. That “people person” skill set makes it easy for me to connect with neighbours and tackle board tasks with a clear perspective.

What is your favourite local tradition? I have always loved the parade down Berkley at the start of Blueridge Good Neighbour Day (BGND). It’s such a classic community moment.

Service Beyond the Board

When she isn’t working on BCA business, Lesley is almost certainly busy helping out elsewhere in the community.

  • Public Service: I volunteer for the RCMP. I even have a uniform—though they still won’t give me a gun! I also love volunteering at a local elementary school with the 6-7-year-olds.
  • The Blueridge “Must-See”: Everyone who lives here should experience seeing a bear in the neighbourhood at least once—it’s part of the local charm!
  • Favourite BCA Initiative: I’m especially proud of the scholarship we give to high-achieving young people in our community.

Quick Hits

  • One word to describe Blueridge: Community.
  • On my days off: You’ll find me hiking with my beloved dog, working out at the Hollyburn gym, or gardening.
  • When I’m relaxing: I’m usually socializing with friends, reading, or keeping an eye on the world news.
