Blueridge Creek Cleanup 2026

A big thank you to the small but mighty crew of volunteers who came out on Sunday the 27th for World Rivers Day! What started as a modest gathering turned into a truly wonderful and high-impact day of stewardship for our local natural spaces across Blueridge and Seymour Heights.
Together, our dedicated group systematically worked through various sections of the creeks across Blueridge and Seymour Heights—tackling both the waterways themselves and the surrounding embankments and trails. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Susanne Mueller, who started this initiative a few years ago and continues to spearhead and organize the event every single year. Her dedication makes this tradition possible, and we greatly appreciate everything she does for our local environment.
During this year’s event, the team pulled out a surprising volume of refuse, including heavy amounts of discarded food containers, takeaway wrappers, and beverage cans that had washed into the water or accumulated along the banks. Beyond standard litter, volunteers carefully collected a significant amount of vape products, electronic byproducts, and packaging, along with hazardous broken glass. By clearing this debris section by section, our small group gave our neighbourhood waterways a fresh start, making our stream corridors and trails much safer for wildlife, pets, and neighbours alike.
If you missed out on the event this year, be sure to mark your calendar for September 26, 2027 (the 4th Sunday in September), World Rivers Day. You can stay connected and catch future announcements by following the BCA news on our social media channels, checking the website regularly, or looking through the neighbourhood bulletin. Remember, community care doesn’t have to wait for an official cleanup day—taking a small bag along on your everyday walks through Blueridge and Seymour Heights and picking up stray litter whenever you spot it goes a long way toward keeping our trails and waterways pristine all year long.
