Syrian Refugee Project

In 2015, thousands of refugees from Syria were arriving in Greece by boat. You may recall the photos.

Local organizations in our area began working to assist some of those refugee families, and Blueridge residents began supporting those organizations. In early 2016, the BCA began fundraising with the Mount Seymour United Church to bring a refugee family to Blueridge. At the time the family of seven (mom, dad, and five school age kids) were in a refugee camp in Iraq.
Later in January, the BCA and the Regional Ecumenical Support Team (REST) welcomed the Abdulhafiz family to the neighbourhood, and a second family was coming as well. Many Blueridge residents contributed to help make this possible.

Six months later, there was devastating news when the family was robbed! Once again, Blueridge residents stepped up to help and funds were quickly raised to replace the stolen items.

Thanks to everyone who donated and helped make these refugees feel at home!
