Resources: For Those In Need
Since COVID appeared in 2020, the BCA has run a program called Blueridge Cares to raise funds for various charitable activities, particularly around the holidays. But financial stress and food security are year round issues. The organizations and services listed below provide assistance of various kinds here on the North Shore. Blueridge residents in need of help are encouraged to contact these groups for assistance.
- 211 (voice or text) or visit https://bc.211.ca/ for a list of services available to BC residents. Provided by United Way. Free and confidential, covers a wide range of needs and concerns.
- Aged out – resources for youth in or from government care in BC.
- BC Benefits Connector – links to benefits provided by the province.
- BC Housing Assistance – various programs providing housing assistance to those in need.
- BC Income Assistance – If you are in need and have no other resources, you may be eligible for income assistance.
- Canada Benefit Finder – an online tool from the federal government to help find benefits available to you.
- Canadian Cancer Society – support for cancer patients and their families.
- Family Services of the North Shore – Support programs for a number of issue, including:
- Food and Grocery Assistance:
- Greater Vancouver Food Bank – there is a North Shore location; registration required.
- North Shore Food Asset Map – map shows food and grocery providers in the North Shore; click on icons in the map for more information; data from North Shore Table Matters.
- North Shore Food Providers – list of organizations providing food and grocery assistance; data from North Shore Table Matters.
- The Harvest Project – provides coaching + counsel, the North Shore Rent Bank, grocery, nutrition + clothing supports, and Clothes For Change social-enterprise thrift shop.
- Help Starts Here – resources for mental health and substance use in BC.
- HOpe Centre – brings together both inpatient and outpatient mental health services under one roof, vastly improving the efficiency of the care provided.
- Intellectual Disabilities Society
- North Shore Disability Resource Centre – assists anyone, regardless of age, with any kind of disability.
- North Shore Women’s Centre – providing a range of services for women in need.
- Parkgate Society Youth Services – supporting and encouraging youth.
- Support and Help – a list of services available here in BC.
