Blueridge Bulletin – September 2014

Blueridge Bulletin – September 2014

1) Venue change for the next BCA Meeting. Due to uncertainties associated with the on-going teacher’s strike, we are unable to use the library at Blueridge Elementary School – so the Tuesday September 9th BCA meeting will be held at Canlan Ice Sports in their meeting room (upstairs). The guest speaker is DNV Mayor Richard Walton. With municipal elections coming up in November, now is a good time to come out and hear what the Mayor has to say about the  District of North Vancouver.

“Richard Walton is serving his third term as Mayor of North Vancouver District, and is in his 18th year of elected public service. Mayor Walton also serves on the following Boards: Metro Vancouver’s Finance Committee, the Municipal Finance Authority of BC, and the Fraser Basin Council. In 2013 he was elected by his peers to a third term as Chair of the Mayors Council serving Vancouver’s regional transit authority.” from the DNV website

2) All-Candidates Meeting for Upcoming Municipal Elections. The Seymour and Blueridge Community Associations along with Parkgate Community Services Society and Mount Seymour United Church are hosting an All Candidates Meeting on Monday, November 10th, at Mount Seymour United Church commencing at 7pm.  Elections are the most visible way for the public to directly influence their local government. During the election process, the candidates generally outline their platforms and objectives if they were to be elected. By choosing the candidates with the ideals and qualities that are most acceptable to the electors, they can directly influence the type of community where they reside or own property. From the Ministry of Community, Sport and Social Development website.

3) Free tours at Western Stevedoring. An opportunity for members of the public to see what goes on at Lynnterm.

Thurs. Sept. 18 @ 9 AM and 11 AM
