Blueridge Bulletin – December 2014

Well – with snow on the ground, it’s feeling like December already. Here is an update on the myriad of happenings in Blueridge this month! Happy Holidays from everyone at the Blueridge Community Association.

1. Do you have a BUG about the BUS? BUG stands for Bus User’s Group – specifically the 214 Bus which recently experienced a service reduction during peak hours. Please click here for more info.

2. FREE tickets (for Seniors) to the Nutcracker – presented by Seymour Dance. Seymour Dance is kindly offering FREE tickets to all Seniors for the Monday, December 8th, 12:45pm performance of the Nutcracker at Centennial Theatre. This a, “must see” show for all ages. Please contact Seymour Dance at 604 929 – 6060…or at for tickets.

3. FREE money for students – The Blueridge Community Association is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school student, residing in this community, who has offered volunteer services in the Blueridge/Seymour Heights Neighbourhood. Please click here for information about our newly established scholarship. The application deadline is March 15 2015. A candidate may also be nominated by another person.

4. The first Blueridge Community Association meeting for 2015 will be for Newcomers to Blueridge/Seymour Heights. There have been quite a few homes sold over the last year &/or new rentals on the market & we’d love to invite anyone who is new to the neighbourhood to an informal meet-and-greet in the library of Blueridge Elementary School on Tuesday, January 13th between 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm. Meet representatives from local organizations (Block Watch, Ron Andrews Community Centre, North Shore Black Bear Society and more) AND find out what the Blueridge Community Association is doing in your new neighbourhood (as well as enjoy some refreshments). Drop-in anytime, children are welcome to attend also. If you know someone who might like to attend, please let us know so we can send them an invitation.

5. Parkgate Christmas Wish Tree Fundraiser. Parkgate Community Centre is inviting members of the community to select a handcrafted ornament, add your name with a Christmas wish, and then hang it on our Christmas Wish Tree, one of 20 decorated trees in our lobby over the festive season. Ornaments will be available at the front desk from Monday, December 1 through to Christmas with a minimum $5 donation to Parkgate Community Services Society.  **The Blueridge Community Association is sponsoring two of the 20 decorated trees so be sure to drop by and have a look the next time you are at Parkgate.
