Blue Ridge Bulletin Article Submission Guidelines
Revised Feb 28, 2026

Got something to share? Let’s do it!
The Blueridge Bulletin welcomes submissions from Blueridge residents. Authors and photographers should follow the following guidelines.
Notes on Topics:
- Before submitting, please email bulletin@blueridgeca.org to confirm your article is appropriate and that there is time to get it inserted into a given month’s issue.
- We accept a wide variety of articles and topics, but as a rule, they must relate to the community of Blueridge and/or its residents.
- The BCA is nonpartisan, so we cannot accept articles or photos that actively endorse or oppose any political candidates, but we are happy to encourage voting and other civic participation.
- We do not accept articles that amount to ads. Articles may discuss local businesses, but such discussion needs to be part of a larger purpose or program.
- That said, paid ads are allowed and appear at the end of each issue. See our Ad Guidelines for more about those.
- We reserve the right to reject any submission for any reason.
Kinds of Submissions:
- Photos with captions. Such images should highlight the neighbourhood in some way or show an issue in it. Captions should be just a sentence or two. Photographer credit will be given. Also see the image guidelines below.
- Regular articles should be short. Four paragraphs and around 500 words are the recommended limits. If your article is substantially longer, it may be edited substantially. If you have concerns, email the editor at bulletin@blueridgeca.org. Regular articles generally have a header image above them. You may supply that image if desired. See the image guidelines below.
- “In a Nutshell” entries are very short, just a couple of sentences. They are not accompanied by an image. These are for meeting announcements and other brief blurbs.
- Posters are not ideal for various technical and practical reasons. If you must submit one, we will generally recreate the text from your poster in the body of the article.
Notes on Submitting:
- Submissions are best in plain text (in an email). They may also be in a Word document or in a PDF. Submission via a shared Google Doc is fine, but be sure to grant the editor access to the contents.
- We reserve the right to edit articles as we see fit, including for size, clarity, taste, and legality. Every effort will be made to keep the meaning the same, but errors are possible. If you have concerns, ask to see the edited text of your article before it is sent out. We will do our best to make that happen, though timing and publication commitments may interfere.
- Some articles may be added permanently to the BCA website, with the author’s permission.
- We may share submissions in other places as well: in our printed newsletter, on our website, and in our social media.
- We do NOT claim copyright on your work. You are always welcome to publish your articles and photos in other publications at any time.
- We’re happy to credit authors and photographers.
- The earlier you submit, the more chance we have to ask questions if needed, confirm edits, and so on. PLEASE SUBMIT EARLY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! If your submission comes in just before publication, errors are more likely, and the chance to fix them is greatly reduced.
About Deadlines
- Generally the Bulletin goes out on the 1st of each month, but publication dates may vary slightly.
- Submission should be made at least 4 full days before the first of each month, but check the relevant submission deadline on this page or given in the previous issue.
- Example: To get your article published in the July issue, it needs to be submitted by midnight on June 27th.
- If you cannot submit your article by that date, let us know by emailing bulletin@blueridgeca.org. We will work with you, but we reserve the right to reject your article or publish it in a later issue if it is too late.
Image Guidelines:
- All submitted images must be royalty free.
Do NOT submit copyrighted images. - Generally each regular article gets introduced by one image. If other images are required within the article, editing gets more difficult. We encourage single images in nearly all cases.
- Images are best in landscape mode (that is, wider than they are tall) rather than portrait mode.
- Always submit the maximum resolution image possible.
- We accept PNGs and JPGs. Other formats may be possible, but please ask first.
- Do not crop your image. We will crop and resize as needed.
- Do NOT embed images in a document. Instead, attach images to the submission email separately.
- Your own photos are ideal, since there are no copyright issues.
- Always provide the photographer’s name and/or organization so we can credit them.
- We reserve the right not to use any image sent us for any reason.
Where/How to Submit:
- To submit your article, email it to bulletin@blueridgeca.org along with any image(s) as attachments.
A Final Note:
- Past issues of the Blueridge Bulletin are publicly archived on the BCA website, on the website of our email provider (MailChimp as of this writing), and may also be saved elsewhere. They are freely accessible to anyone on the internet at any time as a result and will be forever. Not to mention the fact that they will be sent to hundreds of different people. Consider carefully before publishing email addresses, names, or other personal data as a result. The BCA is not responsible for such publication.
