We are already experiencing a drier and hotter than usual spring, with projections for another dry, hot, summer like last year. Now is the time to think about how you are going to water your plants and conserve water this summer. Drip irrigation systems are ideal. They deliver water directly to the roots of the plants where it is needed. You can get kits (Lee Valley Tools has some nice ones with helpful instructions) or the individual parts that you need. Soaker hoses are another option for larger garden beds. With watering restrictions coming into effect on May 15, a timer is a great idea. Timers will also keep your garden beds watered when you are away from home. Last year when I went to buy one in June everyone was sold out. So pick one or two up now at Canadian Tire, Rona, Home Depot. Check reviews online, some of them are very cheaply made and will only last one season (if that). You can get different options (manual, automated, multi-zone).
